In a swift and decisive response to a disturbing case of alleged gang-rape, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested six suspects in connection with the repeated assault of a 13-year-old boy over a period of three years.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Azare, disclosed this information during his maiden briefing held at the command's headquarters in Ikot Akpan-Abia, Uyo on Monday, January 13, 2025. According to CP Azare, the victim, who has been rescued, was repeatedly sodomized by the suspects, who have been identified as Okwudili Levi Okeke (34), Idara Itam Daniel (23), David Udoh James (23), Udofia Edem Udosen (29), David Bassey Bassey (26), and Daniel Jacob Edet (30).
The police commissioner revealed that the arrest was made possible by a tip-off from concerned journalists, who reported that the 13-year-old child had been subjected to repeated rape over a period of three years. The operatives of the Command swiftly swung into action, arresting the suspects and launching a thorough investigation into the matter.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that one of the suspects, Okwudili Okeke, was recruited into sodomy and has had anal sex with several men in the state. The police commissioner emphasized that this is a crime against humanity and will not be condoned.
The suspects will soon be prosecuted after the completion of the investigation. The police commissioner assured that justice will be served, and the perpetrators will face the full weight of the law. The rescue of the victim and the arrest of the suspects demonstrate the commitment of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command to protecting vulnerable members of society and upholding the rule of law.
