KEEPING THE RECORDS STRAIGHT — A REBUTTAL
KEEPING THE RECORDS STRAIGHT — A REBUTTAL
1. I had received a call that inquired if I have a farm in Ukanafun, and I answered in the affirmative. Thereafter, I was scheduled for a short video session on the farm in which I talked about the ARISE farmers scheme of Government. The said video, I understood, was to be uploaded on the ARISE Entrepreneurial portal as one of the PROMOTIONAL materials, to project the scheme and also encourage others to engage in farming
2. I was not told I would be included as one of the beneficiaries in the farmers' grants neither was I given any slot to include anyone else
3. I was utterly surprised when I saw my name on the List as one of the beneficiaries under the ARISE Farmers category
4. On seeing my name on the List, I reached out to the appropriate authorities to express my discontent and asked that my name be immediately DROPPED from the list
5. Like I hinted earlier, I DON'T NEED THE MONEY
6. I have never taken anything meant for the
poor. As a Councillor of my ward, I did empowerment. As a Member of the State House of Assembly, I did a series of empowerment, that met the felt needs of my Constituents!
7. For the records, I have facilitated —
A. 2 buildings for widows.
B. Free medical treatment with operations done.
C. Grading of roads
D. Skill acquisition training and starters pack given.
E. Students' bursary and scholarships (still ongoing)
F. Household materials, machines, tricycles, and cars to supporters, etc.
G. Market, school blocks
H. I've also facilitated jobs for well over 50 of my constituents, amongst others.
8. Having done all these, how could I still be termed selfish?
9. I am aware the media has gone agog with different narratives while some are purely invectives, but let me reiterate here that I'm a politician with a conscience, and as such wouldn't intentionally usurp what is/was meant for the less privileged.
10. Again, let me end with the golden rule — Do unto others, what you will wish others to do unto you.
Hon. Charity Ido, PhD
