AKSU MANAGEMENT MEETS WITH STUDENTS' UNION LEADERS

 


‎Akwa Ibom State University Management met with the students’ Union Executive, Parliamentarians and Faculty Representatives Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at the Senate Chamber, Ikot Akpaden, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area. 


‎Addressing the students, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nse U. Essien explained that the meeting was put together to facilitate interaction between the management and the students, identify challenges and proffer possible solutions. 


He expressed appreciation to the student leaders for their collaborative efforts in ensuring the smooth operation of academic activities and counseled them to maintain exemplary behaviour that will serve as a positive influence to their peers. ‎


Prof. Essien also updated the student leaders on the University's progress toward enhancing their learning environment, notably; the relocation of Faculty of Physical Sciences to its permanent site, equipped with modern amenities including air conditioners and internal communication facilities. 


Additionally, phase one of the Faculty of Biological Sciences building has been completed, with phase two nearing completion. Ongoing projects include the construction of the Arise Hostel on both campuses; Ikot Akpaden and Obio Akpa campuses, a 400-capacity theatre lecture hall, and the renovation of the medical centre, among others.


‎The Vice-Chancellor congratulated the AKSU students who excelled during their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme in Nasarawa State and encouraged other students to strive for similar excellence in their respective places of assignment in due course. He assured the students that the University Management will examine their concerns with the intention of finding solutions to them.


‎In his speech, the Students' Union President, Comrade Elijah Ekanem expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor and University Management for their consistent willingness to address student leaders and general students’ welfare issues. He also presented several requests to the Vice-Chancellor, including the provision of WiFi services, installation of an Identity Card Machine, setting up a cafeteria and improved supply of electricity and water at the Obio Akpa Campus.


‎In a vote of thanks, the Dean, Students Affairs, Dr. Dominic Ekpo appreciated the Vice-Chancellor and his management team for convening the meeting and for their ongoing support in enhancing the welfare of the Student Union and Parliamentarians.


A notable highlight of the meeting was the presentation of a Toyota Corolla vehicle to Comrade Elijah Ekanem, the Students' Union President, to enable him discharge his duties creditably.
