OBONG DR PRINCE IKIM AND THE PERPETUAL AWARDS AND HONOR
Before 2018, Uyo's dirty environment was a total mess, posing serious health risks and environmental concerns. The consequences of such neglect were far-reaching. The streets, dumpsites were an absolute disaster, a huge health hazard and environmental nightmare all rolled into one.
The neglect was crazy, and the consequences were severe. Waterborne diseases like cholera and typhoid were basically having a field day in those unsanitary conditions. And don't even get me started on the malaria breeding gutters and grounds ... it was like the city was inviting mosquitoes over for a party.
The blocked drains were like mini lakes, flooding homes and businesses, and disrupting lives big time. Trash and waste were just dumped everywhere, polluting the air and triggering respiratory issues and other health problems.
The stench and ugly sights were a total turn-off, affecting people's mental well-being and the local economy . And let's not forget about the local ecosystems suffering, with wildlife struggling to survive amidst pollution and waste.
But there came the hope... the turn-around and the emergence of a new Chairman, Obong Dr Prince Ikim on September 5th, 2018. Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency (AKSEPWMA).
The new chairman's efforts is becoming evident in turning things around, making Uyo cleaner and healthier . Fewer mosquitoes, less flooding, and fresher air – that's the way to go.
Everyone who knows Obong Prince Ikim, knows that he bears the posture of a political, social and physical neat freak, a fastidious individual, a cleanliness enthusiast, a hygiene buff and so on.
He's been spearheading initiatives to promote environmental sustainability, waste management, and conservation in Akwa Ibom State since then.
Chairman of Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency (AKSEPWMA), Deacon (Dr) Prince Ikim was honoured with SUPPORT LEADERSHIP AWARD from the state Commissioner of Police , CP Olatoye Durosinmi in recognition of AKSEPWMA's zealous cleaning activities at the state command.
Under his watch at AKSEPWMA, Akwa Ibom has won the award for NIGERIA'S CLEANEST STATE for eight consecutive years, spanning from 2018 to 2025, according to THE ANNUAL STATE OF THE NIGERIAN ENVIRONMENT (STONE) report by CLEAN-UP NIGERIA, solidifying its reputation for environmental hygiene and sanitation.
Also, The National Technical Study Group ( NTSG) also announced Akwa Ibom State as THE CLEANEST STATE in Nigeria with a cumulative score of 78.2 per cent while Kogi State took the rear position with a cumulative score of 11 per cent.
These achievements are not coincidental but a true, deliberate and logically arranged efforts coordinated by the PRINCE himself.
