AKHA: HON. ANIEFIOK ASUQUO JOINS RACE, GETS MASSIVE ENDORSEMENTS
• As Northern Ukanafun Clan Sends SOS To Gov. Eno, Insists On Zoning
-------------------------------+
A core grassroots politician, chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (-APC), former Councillor, and Member of the Transition Committee in Ukanafun local government, Hon. Elder Aniefiok Asuquo has thrown his hat into the ring, aspiring to serve the Ukanafun State Constituency in the State House of Assembly come 2027.
Hon. Udo Asuquo, as he's popularly known, who recently purchased and submitted the party's nomination and expression of interest forms for the 2027 House of Assembly nomination, has also received massive endorsements from across the constituency during an enlarged 'endorsement rally' Saturday, 9 May, 2026, in his hometown, Ikot Uko Annang, Northern Ukanafun Clan, Ukanafun LGA.
He will be slugging it out with the incumbent, who's rumored to have been seeking a second term, after what the constituents described as “an abysmal or zero performance” in office.
Facts have emerged that the said seat is zoned to Northern Ukanafun in 2027, having been rotating on a “single term basis” since 1999 between the Ukanafun and Afaha political blocs. The incumbent is serving out the turn of the Afaha bloc, leaving the seat for Northern Ukanafun, who is ready to take their turn through Hon. Aniefiok Asuquo.
Speaking amidst a mammoth crowd of supporters and party faithful, the assembly hopeful formally declared his intention to vie for the Ukanafun State Constituency seat, divulging that he has obtained and submitted the intent/nomination forms of the party, signalling his eligibility and readiness to run at the polls.
He appreciated his supporters for their steadfastness and encouragement to stay in the race, noting that the next phase needs even more commitment towards the envisaged victory.
Laying a background for his aspiration, he explained that apart from being duly qualified by zoning and other credentials, he has the burden of the people to change the narratives and up the ante of representation, which unfortunately has become a pipedream under the incumbent.
While expressing his avowal in an emotion-laden voice, Hon. Asuquo further hinted that he knows what it means to be a lawmaker, having served effectively at the local government legislative council plus other relevant experiences. He pleaded that the governor look into the ceaseless clamoring for zoning by Northern Ukanafun people, adding that “zoning is the apron strings binding the peaceful coexistence between the Ukanafun and Afaha political blocs from time immemorial,” noting that ignoring such an important factor wouldn't augur well with the popular wishes and cries of the people.
Hear him: “I want to first and foremost thank you for your show of confidence and solidarity, which, I must confess, has been the backbone behind my stay in the race. Again, let me plead with our governor and our leaders that zoning be allowed to prevail in the Ukanafun State Constituency come 2027. From the time of Elder Aniekan Akpan to Dr. Charity Ido, zoning has always been upheld, of which the incumbent Emem Udom is a beneficiary. Governor Akpabio and Udom Emmanuel didn't truncate zoning, and it's our belief too that our peace-loving Governor Umo Eno wouldn't.
“As your lawmaker to-be, I'll change the narratives. There shall be no need to cry and shout about the constituency briefing; I'll make it happen even before you know it. I'll do more than just a constituency briefing. I'll be there, seen and felt in the hallowed chambers, at oversights, and at the point of your needs. I have the experience, the maturity, the charisma, the character to lobby, and the humility to listen, interfere, and intervene where necessary for the good of all. I know all these will happen with God by our side."
Earlier in their separate remarks, the APC Chairman of the Urban Ward, and party stalwarts from Wards 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, ,10, and 11, as well as the traditional fathers, amongst others, affirmed their stance on zoning, describing Hon. Asuquo's aspiration as pro-people, especially one that has their backing. They prayed God for success.
Highpoints of the event were the official endorsements of President Tinubu, Senator God'swill Akpabio, Governor Umo Eno, and the assembly hopeful, Hon. Aniefiok Asuquo. A minute of silence was also observed in honor of those who passed on to keep the covenant of zoning in the Ukanafun State Constituency seat between the Ukanafun and Afaha blocs, as well as prayers for peaceful 2027 nomination exercises across the state and country.
