The Herdsmen Crisis: A Lesson for Akwa Ibom and Beyond

Image
Let me be crystal clear from the very outset. I absolutely and in no uncertain terms condemn all herdsmen attacks on INNOCENT Nigerians. But the operative word here is 'innocent'. I have ABSOLUTELY no sympathy whatsoever for the people of Benue State, especially the Tivs, in their current well deserved travails in the hands of Fulani herdsmen. And before anyone attempts to come here and cry more than the bereaved, be informed that the recent history of Tiv treachery and tribalism precludes them from any genuine sympathy. My favourite Jamaican proverb says that 'what sweet nanny goat, it a-go run im belly'. Roughly translated, it says that he who brings in ant infested wood must be prepared for the visit of lizards. Are we this forgetful? Lest we forget, before Muhammadu Buhari and his fellow APC bigots came to power in 2015, Fulani herdsmen atrocities were unknown in Nigeria. Boko Haram, itself a brain child of the current APC Vice President, an ethnic acolyte of that s...

PDP IS 100% INTACT, UNSHAKEN -Publicity Secretary

Image
To the esteemed members and supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State, it is with utmost respect and sincerity that I address you today. Following the June 6, 2025, defection, our party faithful have eagerly awaited our response. We appreciate the concern and loyalty that have characterized your wait. As prudent stewards of our party's legacy and future, we deemed it wise and strategic to first engage in comprehensive internal consultations. This deliberate approach allowed us to convene with our party structure and stakeholders, ensuring alignment and informed decision-making before issuing any public statement.  To this end, we embarked on a meticulous series of meetings, starting with our State Working Committee, followed by the Party Executive Committee (EXCO), Chapter Chairmen, and Ward Chairmen across the three Senatorial Districts of Eket, Ikot Ekpene, and Uyo. Additionally, we held a crucial meeting with the staff of the party secretariat, t...

POLITICS: THE ENO/AKPABIO GRANITE COALITION

Image
By Inemesit Ina It was Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), the Presidential Candidate of the now defunct All Nigeria Peoples' Party (ANPP) for the 2007 election, who first used the term, "Granite Coalition."  He used it to describe the working alliance between him and his counterpart in the now defunct Action Congress (AC), then Vice President Atiku Abubakar (Atiku did not start coalition politics today). They were contesting against the standard bearer of the ruling Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP), then Governor Umaru Yar'Adua of Katsina State. Yar'Adua won the election but, by his admission, it was characterised by irregularities. Hence, his election reform initiative as President. Borrowing Buhari's term, a Granite Coalition has been put in place in Akwa Ibom. But in sharp contrast to that of Buhari and Atiku, which fell apart before the election, the one in Akwa Ibom, midwifed by Governor Umo Eno and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, looks rock so...

DEFECTION: PDP IS INTACT - STATE CHAIRMAN

Image
The political atmosphere was charged with subtle tension on Sunday at the headquarters of Believers Assembly, Uyo, as the Akwa Ibom State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Aniekan Akpan, publicly declared that the party remains unshaken despite Governor Umo Eno’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Speaking during the church’s 55th anniversary celebration, Akpan fired a thinly veiled shot at the Governor, stating emphatically: “The PDP in Akwa Ibom is intact.” The event, which had Governor Eno in attendance, marked the first public platform where the PDP Chairman reacted to the Governor’s exit and the defection of many PDP ward chairmen to the APC. Governor Umo Eno, however, chose not to engage directly with Akpan’s assertion. Instead, he used the moment to debunk rumours of a fractured relationship with his predecessor and political mentor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel. “My relationship with my boss, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, is intact,” the Governor declared, indi...

2027:Why Wike, PDP Allies Meet Tinubu In Aso Rock

Image
President Bola Tinubu, on Saturday evening, met with some stalwarts of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in what is widely considered as a political realignment move ahead of the 2027 general election. The PDP members were led to the meeting, which took place at Aso Rock Presidential Villa, by the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike. The President’s guests were solely Wike’s allies and members of the defunct G5 Governors in the last dispensation. FREELANCE NEWS recalls that the G5 Governors led by Wike, then the outgoing governor of Rivers State, worked against the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and supported Tinubu, who was then the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the 2023 poll. After the polls, President Tinubu appointed Wike, a member of the PDP, as Minister of FCT in August, 2023. Present at the meeting was a former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, and two members of the defunct G5 – former governors of Benue and Abia...

DEFECTION:Why PDP State Chairman Should Stay Put

Image
  - Party Stability : The chairman's continuity ensures stability within the party state structure, allowing it to regroup and strategize for future elections. - Maintaining Membership Loyalty: By staying, the chairman can reassure party members and maintain their loyalty, preventing further defections to APC. - Rebuilding and Reorganization : The chairman can focus on rebuilding and reorganizing the party, identifying areas of weakness and implementing measures to strengthen its presence in the state. - Symbol of Resistance : The chairman's presence can serve as a symbol of resistance against APC's advances, motivating party members to work harder and maintain their stronghold in the state. In the case of Plateau State, PDP's state chairman, Christ Hassan, has affirmed that the party remains steadfast, asserting the loyalty of its members despite speculation about Governor Muftwang's potential defection.   This show of determination and confidence in the party...

Portable: If It Was Tinubu, I Would Have Collected Bundles

Image
Controversial Nigerian singer, Portable, has stirred social media buzz after revealing that Labour Party's Peter Obi gave him only a handshake during a recent encounter. In a viral video, the artist noted that he received no financial gift from Obi, contrasting the interaction with what he believes would have occurred had the meeting been with President Bola Tinubu. “If it was Tinubu, I would have collected bundles,” Portable said, implying that the President is more generous when it comes to rewarding entertainers. His comment has since drawn mixed reactions online, with some praising Obi for maintaining integrity, while others criticized Portable’s apparent expectation of handouts. #Portable #PeterObi #Tinubu #PoliticalPatronage #NaijaCelebs

FUN TIME: APC Gov. Pastor Umo Eno set to settle each PDP stalwarts with 1 million naira

Image
The recently defected Gov. Of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno has promised to settle all PDP party executives and stalwarts with 1 million naira each. In response to these and in an atmosphere of mixed emotions, the former governor and former diken expressed appreciation for the gesture and equally expressed disappointment in the Governor's decision to leave the religion he was born into. DEFECTION:"ONE DAY YOU’LL LOOK BACK AND REALIZE THAT YOU WORRIED TOO MUCH ABOUT THINGS THAT DON’T REALLY MATTER, HAPPY SUNDAY. Just FOCUS!!!"--PRINCE IKIM

Image
This statement is a gentle reminder to prioritize what's truly important in life. Reflecting on the past: The phrase "one day you'll look back" encourages us to consider our perspective on life. Often, when we reflect on past experiences, we realize that many things we worried about were insignificant in the grand scheme. Letting go of unnecessary worries:The statement highlights that we often worry about things that "don't really matter." This can include petty concerns, minor setbacks, or things outside our control. By acknowledging this, we're encouraged to reevaluate our priorities. Focusing on what matters:The final part, "Just FOCUS!!!", emphasizes the importance of concentrating on what's truly important. This could include our goals, relationships, personal growth, or contributing to something meaningful. The message is especially relevant on a Happy Sunday, as it's a day to relax, recharge, and prepare for the week ahead. ...

DEFECTION: ONOFIOK LUKE TAKES A STAND

Image
My attention has been drawn to some political materials circulating on the internet with my pictures on it and I wish to state that I have no knowledge of them neither have I authorized anyone or group of persons to do so on my behalf.  May I state that it is the handy work of mischief makers who in the last few days have tried to force words from me and I will not grant them such satisfaction.  The publication  and circulation is also done with  the intention of straining the cordial relationship I enjoy with my brother, kinsman and Governor HE Pastor Umo Eno Ph.D, whom I have pledged to support to realize his Arise Agenda for the benefit of Akwa Ibom people, on a bipartisan note not minding our political affiliations.  I wish the general public to note accordingly. DEFECTION: WHY ENOIDEM (SAN) PREFERED TO STAY IN PDP MARKING HIS DEPARTURE FROM UMO ENO

Image
Former PDP National Legal Adviser Says Party Will Present Candidates For 2027 Elections There have been series of intense discussions at various strata following Governor Umo Eno's shocking announcement of defection to APC to his exco members two weeks ago. This time, the discussion amongst citizens about Governor Umo Eno's defection took place on one of the microblogging platforms in the state known as "Ibom Telegraph" WhatsApp Group. One of the critical members of the platform and indeed, a stakeholder of PDP who is equally a promoter of Pastor Eno, Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem, shared his thoughts over Governor Eno's defection. Barr. Enoidem, the Former PDP National Legal Adviser, had earlier declared his intention that he would not follow his friend, Pastor Umo Eno, to the APC as the party is a bug of failure.
