DEFECTION: WHY ENOIDEM (SAN) PREFERED TO STAY IN PDP MARKING HIS DEPARTURE FROM UMO ENO
Former PDP National Legal Adviser Says Party Will Present Candidates For 2027 Elections
There have been series of intense discussions at various strata following Governor Umo Eno's shocking announcement of defection to APC to his exco members two weeks ago. This time, the discussion amongst citizens about Governor Umo Eno's defection took place on one of the microblogging platforms in the state known as "Ibom Telegraph" WhatsApp Group.
One of the critical members of the platform and indeed, a stakeholder of PDP who is equally a promoter of Pastor Eno, Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem, shared his thoughts over Governor Eno's defection.
Barr. Enoidem, the Former PDP National Legal Adviser, had earlier declared his intention that he would not follow his friend, Pastor Umo Eno, to the APC as the party is a bug of failure.
Shocked by Enoidem's stance that he would not follow his friend whom he supported fiercely to APC, one of the ardent members of the WhatsApp group, Comrade Unwana Assam, posed a question to him; "Sir, You said you will not defect but will support Governor Umo Eno for a second term. Is that not an anti-party act? And is there any difference between not defecting to APC and staying in PDP to support an APC candidate"?
Enoidem-SAN, who did not mince words nor waste time in answering the question said;
"Well you can call that anti party but you can’t be in APC and commit anti party supporting your party candidate. So that is and remains my decision on the Governorship in 2027.
"Governor Umo Eno meets all my desires and expectations for Akwa Ibom Gov, except for this defection, which is my only point of departure from him. So I appreciate his works and will want that to continue. But then I also added that my prayer is that the failure bug in APC won’t catch up with him".
The SAN, whose body language since Governor Umo Eno's defection move broke out have been that of surprise, disappointment, and displeasure, despite being one of the people who campaigned and sold Governor Umo Eno vigorously to Akwa Ibom people, concluded by saying;
"Finally, not defecting to APC means I am in PDP and will support PDP.
This also means that PDP will have the opportunity to present candidates in all other positions in the state".
Governor Eno is billed to defection to APC 6th June, 2025, and until then, those to follow him and those not willing to follow him to APC are not yet ascertained.
